On February 9th, 1986, Reserve Deputy Timothy Ruggles and partner Deputy Jon Perrizaz were on patrol in Loomis. The two were dispatched to assist a fellow deputy who had located a burglary suspect’s vehicle and requested backup. While responding, the two crashed into a large oak tree off Laird Road.
Timothy was flown to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Timothy had served with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office for only 11 months. Timothy grew up in Roseville and graduated from Oakmont High School.
God bless Timothy and his family. They are in our thoughts and prayers on this day.

On the evening of January 20th PCSO Deputies were dispatched to reports of a man armed with a firearm in the area of Douglas Road and Auburn Folsom Road. The subject was reportedly stealing items from a gas station convenience store while intimidating employees with a firearm in his waistband.
Deputies immediately responded and located the suspect vehicle leaving the area. A traffic stop was initiated and the suspect fled from Deputies for over 30 miles along eastbound Highway 80. California Highway Patrol assisted with deploying a spike strip to disable the suspect vehicle and a high-risk traffic stop was initiated.
The suspect exited the vehicle and was non-compliant with deputies attempts to take him into custody. K9 Axel and other less-lethal force options were deployed and Axel was able to successfully apprehend the suspect bringing the chaotic crime spree to a peaceful resolution.
The suspect was arrested for multiple felony charges including robbery, evading, and assault on a peace officer.
This incident is another example showcasing the value of patrol K9’s in their application as a less-lethal and deescalation asset available to our Deputies and to our community.
Thank you to California Highway Patrol for their assistance in safely capturing this suspect.
